PDO Thread Lift Treatment

The PDO thread lift treatment works by redefining the facial contours, creating lifting and tightening effects in the cheeks, jowls and neck while also stimulating collagen production. The treatment involves the implantation of fine, absorbable Polydioxanone (PDO) threads, similar to those used in medical suturing into the subcutaneous layer of the skin using small needles. These threads remain inserted in the skin causing micro-injuries that stimulate collagen synthesis and tissue contraction.  The PDO thread lift treatment is tailor-made and can be adjusted to your requirements at any time.

We offer two types of PDO thread treatments. The barbwire threads are used to lift sagging skin, while the Monothreads are used for skin tightening purposes.

    • Improves jawline definition
    • Improves the appearance of nasal-labial folds (smile lines)
    • Improves the appearance marionette lines (droopy or wrinkled skin from mouth to chin)
    • Lifts midface and cheeks
    • Treats loose, slack facial skin
    • Boosts collagen production

The PDO thread lift treatment can help to lift and tighten the skin, but it is not designed to address common concerns such as uneven pigmentation or fine lines and wrinkles.  Combining the PDO thread lift with treatments such laser skin resurfacing, IPL Photofacial, dermal fillers, Botox and other popular anti-aging treatments, an overall skin rejuvenation with visible, longer lasting results can be achieved.

While the PDO thread lift treatment produces visible improvements in the face, it is best suited for patients who are dealing with mild to moderate, rather than severe, signs of skin laxity.  Collagen helps support “growth factors” that greatly influences the condition of our skin. The production of collagen decreases during the aging process, allowing gravity to stretch and pull the skin downward.  Boosting collagen production with the PDO thread lift treatment when the signs of skin laxity are still mild, can help to both reduce skin laxity and prevent it from getting worse.

Results from the treatment last depending on the patient’s age, skin health, metabolism and other contributing factors.  The first effects are visible immediately, then again after 4-6 weeks and there is significant improvement after 3-4 months when new collagen stimulation begins to appear.  The PDO threads are reabsorbed and dissolved over a period of 6-9 months on average, however due to the stimulation of collagen, the treatment shows prolonged rejuvenation effects.

    • Arnica tablets taken from about 5 days pre and post treatment may be beneficial in reducing swelling after the treatment.
    • Avoid alcohol of any kind, as well as smoking. This will help speed your recovery and provide better treatment results.
    • Stop taking vitamin E, supplements such as Fish Oil, Krill, Garlic, Chilli Ginseng, Ginger & Green teas.
    • Any Aspirin based products such as Ibuprofen, Neurofen, Naprosen/Naprogesic should be avoided. Aspirin prescribed for a medical indication should not be terminated. Lidocaine and epinephrine will be injected into the treatment area to minimize pain and decrease the chance of bleeding. The PDO threads will then be introduced using a cannula or micro-needle in the required area. Your face will feel numb and your mouth may be asymmetrical for a few hours, similar to that of dental injections. Please refrain from chewing or drinking hot liquids until your face has regained full sensation.
