Kybella is an exciting new FDA approved treatment from Allergan for submental fullness, or double chin. The active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps break down fat.

How does it work?
Kybella is injected into the fat pad under the chin and permanently destroys fat cells. Your body’s natural metabolism then processes the fat cleared from the treatment area. The fat that 1is dissolved is permanently gone!
What should I expect after the treatment?
The actually treatment takes less than 30 minutes. There is pain and swelling during and after injection that can last a few hours. Most patients will have four to five days of swelling, discomfort and redness. Anywhere from 10-20% of patients will have prolonged swelling, numbness and/or discomfort for a month or more. The good news is that to date all symptoms have been noted to resolve.
Possible Side Effects
There is a possibility of temporary nerve injury in the jaw that can cause an uneven smile. Only 4 out of 10 people experienced in the clinical studies and all cases resolved in a median of 43 days.
How many treatments do I need and how often are they done?
The typical patient requires 2-3 treatment sessions, each session using 2-3 vials of the product. Treatment sessions spread out every 4-6 weeks.
Who cannot be treated with Kybella?
Kybella is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old. Tell your injector about all your medical conditions, allergies, and all medicines you use. You should not use Kybella if you are allergic to deoxycholic acid, or if you have an infection in or around the area to be treated.
It is also important to know if you have had surgery or other cosmetic treatments on your neck, chin, or face (or if you plan to have surgery on any of these areas); trouble swallowing; a thyroid disorder; swollen lymph glands in your neck; or a bleeding or blood clotting disorder such as hemophilia.
It is not known whether Kybella will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known whether deoxycholic acid passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
How much does it cost?
