Unfortunately, loose, sagging skin will keep getting worse as you age, especially on your face. Your skin isn’t as taut as it used to be and lines and wrinkles keep forming. A PDO thread lift can help lift and tighten your skin to reveal the more youthful facial aesthetic that you’re used to. The PDO thread lift treatment redefines the facial contours, as it creates a lifting and tightening effect in the cheeks, jowls, and neck while stimulating collagen production.
PDO thread lift is best suited for patients dealing with mild to moderate signs of skin laxity rather than severe laxity. A thorough consultation with the professionals at Northwest Aesthetics will give you the opportunity to discuss your desires and goals to determine if this treatment is the best for you. At your consultation, you will be given all pre-care and aftercare instructions to set you up for success.
How PDO Thread Lift Works
The treatment involves the implantation of fine, absorbable Polydioxanone (PDO) threads, similar to those used in medical suturing, into the subcutaneous layer of the skin using small needles. We will inject lidocaine and epinephrine into the treatment area to minimize pain and decrease the chance of bleeding. Your face will feel numb, and your mouth may be asymmetrical for a few hours, similar to when you receive dental injections for dental work. It is important that you refrain from chewing or drinking hot liquids until your face has regained full sensation. At Northwest Aesthetics, we offer two different types of threads. The barbwire threads are used to lift sagging skin, while the monothreads are used for skin tightening purposes. The PDO threads remain in the skin, causing micro-injuries that stimulate collagen synthesis and tissue contraction, which results in tighter-looking skin.

Patients may experience some temporary side effects, including mild swelling, redness, and/or bruising, and sensitivity to touch. Arnica tablets taken about five days pre- and post-treatment may be beneficial in reducing swelling after the treatment. All side effects typically subside on their own within a few weeks of your treatment session. Patients may resume their everyday routine and social commitments within a couple of days.
Results vary depending on the patient’s age, skin health, metabolism, and other contributing factors. The PDO threads are reabsorbed by the body, and they dissolve naturally over a period of six to nine months on average. Typically, the first effects are visible immediately and then again after four to six weeks. There is significant improvement after three to four months when new collagen stimulation begins to appear. Due to the stimulation of collagen, the treatment shows prolonged rejuvenation effects.
