PDO Thread Lift Treatment

pdo thread lift

PDO thread lift is a type of procedure wherein temporary sutures are used to produce a subtle but visible “lift” in the skin. Many patients will experience a smoothing of wrinkles and fine lines, improvement in facial volume, lifting of loose and sagging skin, and an improvement in skin tone.

Instead of removing the patient’s loose facial skin surgically, your service provider simply suspends it by stitching up portions of it. This has the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore lifting and tightening the face. In addition to being ideal for lifting the skin, threads combat aging in another way: by provoking the body’s “healing response” and causing the body to direct large surges of collagen to treated areas. This is important because of the vital role collagen plays in the aging process.  This provides ongoing and progressive rejuvenation for the facial tissues. Patients who have a thread lift for the purpose of stimulating collagen will notice a gradual improvement in their skin’s tone and firmness.

Collagen helps support “growth factors” that greatly influences the condition of our skin. In addition to being used for wound healing, collagen helps to keep our skin strong, voluminous and supple. As we get older, our bodies gradually produce less and less collagen, which leads to an 80% reduction in skin thickness by about age 70. This loss of volume and strength is a large factor in the creation of excess skin and wrinkles. As the skin grows weaker, it’s no longer able to support the tissues beneath it adequately, meaning that gravity pulls it downwards and stretches it. Infusing the skin of the face with fresh collagen when the signs of skin laxity are still mild can help to both reduce looseness (by thickening and hydrating the skin) and prevent it from getting worse (by strengthening the skin).

  • Improves jawline definition
  • Improves the appearance of nasal-labial folds (smile lines)
  • Improves the appearance marionette lines (droopy or wrinkled skin from mouth to chin)
  • Lifts midface and cheeks
  • Treats loose, slack facial skin

It’s important for patients to maintain realistic expectations for this procedure. While thread lifts certainly produce visible changes, they will generally only lift the face by a few millimeters; as such, they create a subtler and more natural looking end result than facelift surgery. Thread lifts are therefore best suited to patients who are dealing with mild to moderate, rather than severe, signs of skin laxity.

While thread lifts can tighten the skin effectively, they aren’t designed to address blemishes on the skin’s surface. As such, banishing the superficial signs of aging—like age spots, areas of uneven pigmentation and fine lines is not treated with PDO threads. Combining the PDO thread lift with treatments such laser skin resurfacing, IPL, dermal fillers, Botox and other popular anti-aging treatments, a more youthful-looking layer of skin then grows in its place.

Results from the treatment last depending on the patient’s age, skin health and other contributing factors.  The first effects are visible immediately, then again after 4-6 weeks and there is significant improvement after 10-12 weeks when new collagen stimulation begins to appear.  The PDO threads are reabsorbed and dissolved over a period of 6-9 months on average, however due to the stimulation of collagen, the treatment shows prolonged rejuvenation effects.  Maximum collagen stimulation and a cell generation boost induced by the dissolving thread will slow down the aging process.  Combining with other treatments and using medical grade skin care products will help to prolong results of the PDO Threads treatment.

Lidocaine and epinephrine will be injected into the treatment area to minimize pain and decrease the chance of bleeding. The PDO threads will then be introduced using a cannula or micro-needle in the required area. Your face will feel numb and your mouth may be asymmetrical for a few hours, similar to that of dental injections. Please refrain from chewing or drinking hot liquids until your face has regained full sensation. You will be able to fully resume your everyday routine and social commitments within a couple of weeks.

You may experience some temporary side effects, including mild swelling, redness, and/or bruising, sensitivity to touch.  These side effects typically subside on their own within a few weeks of your treatment session.  In rare cases, infection or uneven appearance in the treated area is possible.

You will be given all information on pre care and aftercare at the time of your consultation.
